FEATURED PROJECT:

Dungloe District Offices

Award winning project as the Sustainable Building of the Year, 2001. A challenging project in terms of complex architectural detail and structural requirements, delivered successfully with a renowned award winning architecture practice. The project is sited on a peat bog where the building rests on the ground while appearing to float on the landscape. The building is composed of two boxes, one standing and one on its side; the north block is plastered with a shelf like roof extending over the south block appearing to shelter it, the south block is clad in timber and contains a secondary double height space, a roof lit atrium between the blocks encloses the space. The external finishes  are carried into and throughout the building.

A community social space  with a café and exhibition room is provided offering access to local authority and government services in the surrounding offices which  are naturally lit and ventilated from two or three sides. The glazing of the south block is protected from solar gain with timber rain screen baffles formed by omitting sections of the external cladding.
